The President's Podium -- By Terry Due (2007 Chamber President)

Members,

The month of July got started off with a bang. The City of Collinsville had it's annual Independence Day fireworks display at the Collinsville City Park. Those in attendance were treated to one of the most spectacular displays in many years. Thanks so much to the City employees and all those responsible for the 4th of July festivities.

Our July general meeting was held at the City Park with our annual Collinsville City Employee Appreciation Picnic. The attendance was great with a great lunch consisting of bar-b-que sandwiches, baked beans, potato salad, chips soft drinks and deserts provided by the Chamber and a number of city merchants. A special "thank you" goes out to Don Hutchinson, Beth Ann Langston, Marilyn Hardacre, Jack Young and, of course Wanda Nyberg. Thank you, also, to all of the members who donated their covered dishes (and time) to help make the picnic a special day for our city employees. We are still trying to figure out how Daniel Boggs' name got in the gift jar twice! Thank for the fans, Cory Slagle!

School will be starting soon and for most of the community this will signify the end of summer (as we know it). The Meadowcreek United Methodist Church is coordinating a school supply drive to assist families in Collinsville who are experiencing financial hardships. They have received aid from local businesses, churches, civic groups, and private individuals in an effort to ensure that the children who qualify receive the necessary supplies. Thank you to Tommy Seale and all of the merchants and organizations who participated in this effort.

The next general meeting is August 2nd at the Collinsville Library, and the Teachers' Appreciation Breakfast is on August 14th at 8:00am in the Middle School Cafeteria. I hope to see you all at both meetings.

Sincerely, Terry Due
